Commissioning an Instrument
NOTICE: My wait list for commissions is growing. If you want to commission a guitar, the next available time frame for a commission is January 2025.
Commissioning a Calvo instrument begins with a quote request and ends with you receiving what I’m sure will be a guitar you will love and be proud to own and enjoy. In between, there are a number of steps involved that will insure you get the features and characteristic you want at an agreeable cost.
The commissioning process involves the following:
An initial quote request for a specific model;
Discussion and agreement on all materials, features, customizations, finish method, etc.;
Submission to you of the finalized quote (Note: Design changes can and do occur, and may either raise or lower the final cost);
Submission of a nonrefundable deposit to cover initial cost of materials;
Billing for balance plus shipping upon completion and packaging of instrument;
One month trial period - allowance for instrument to be shipped back for adjustments (balance payment held in abeyance).
Because I build only a couple of instruments at a time, commissions will be queued in the order in which they were received. Commissioned instruments can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to complete on average, once construction has begun. I try not to queue clients more than six months out, but of course if you’re willing to wait even longer, I’m happy to accommodate you.
I offer a one-year warranty period for defects in material or labor, during which repairs are at no cost to you, the client.
If you are simply not satisfied and the instrument must be returned, you may return it for a partial refund (the balance paid at the time of completion); however, the initial deposit will be retained. This arrangement ensures good faith on the part of both parties.
